FORBES INVEST IN NEW TANK PRODUCTION PLANT
Forbes Technologies Ltd is one of the largest producers, in UK, of custom designed & built tanks, scrubbing & degassing towers for the chemical, pharmaceutical, power utilities, oil & gas and water treatment industries, in a variety of plastic & composite materials.
The company’s main manufacturing plant is located in the Borders of Scotland at Kelso. With the increase in demand for their range of tanks in thermoplastics, £1.7 million investment has been made in the technology for the automated production of tanks & towers up to 4 metres diameter. The helix winding process is the latest & and most efficient process available. The production equipment is currently in manufacture at the Krah plant in Schutzbach, Germany and is scheduled to be commissioned early 2013. Construction of the new facility is well under way on the recently purchased 1.8 acres site adjacent to their existing production plant.
Managing Director, Melvyn Jupp, states “Although we have constructed a new tank manufacturing facility two years ago, we have been struggling to keep up with demand. With the increase in the markets, particularly in exports & the water utilities, we have fast tracked this development.” With this latest equipment high quality tanks at very competitive costs are achievable with capacities up to 100,000 litres. All tanks will designed to BS EN 12573 & the more stringent German standard DVS 2205. Material of construction will include High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) & Copolymer Polypropylene.
Currently Forbes manufacture tanks in dual laminate composites incorporating Polypropylene & PVCu structurally reinforced with glassfibre laminates up to 200,000 litres. Recent installations include over 25 tanks, the majority being over 150,000 litres capacity, for the storage & processing of sodium hypochlorite, hydrochloric acid, and sodium hydroxide. Exports include tanks to Russia and scrubbing towers to China 2.8 metres diameter x 30 metres high in E-CTFE composite materials.
“This latest exciting development is another major step forward in meeting the demands of our already well established markets” stated Melvyn. “The company is in a fortunate position in being able to invest to increase output, particularly during a time of a depressed economy” to 4 metre in diameter in HDPE & Polypropylene up to 80mm thick.
