Refurbishment project at Water Treatment Works prevents contamination
Durapipe Guardian, a specialist dual contained pipework system, has been installed as part of a refurbishment project at Egham Water Treatment Works.
Owned by Affinity Water and based in Middlesex, the Egham Water Treatment Works needed an upgrade to its plant, which included introducing new pipework that would be suitable for chemical dosing.
Contractors IDS, were tasked with installing a secure pipework system to carry Orthophosphoric Acid and Polyaluminium Chloride.
After investigating a variety of different options for dual contained pipework systems, IDS opted for the Durapipe Guardian system in 1”#3”, due to its chemical resistance properties and ease of installation. Its corrosion resistance also ensures that the pipework system operates effectively over the lifetime of the system, reducing maintenance and replacement costs.
Commenting on the project, James Roper, Industrial Brand Manager at Durapipe said: “The maintenance people on site were concerned that if the system was to block then clearing the blockage in a Dual Contained System could be difficult. However, as is usually the case with a Dual Contained system, planning and system design are key. By installing capped tees at each change of direction, multiple rodding points were added at minimal cost to the installation. Since the installation, the system has worked effectively and everyone on-site is happy. ”
Incorporating a patented Centralok™ system, Durapipe Guardian is the only dual containment system which provides a solid inner pipe fitting, making it easier to install as the inner pipe is in a fixed position and can be easily jointed, compared with alternative dual contained piping systems where the inner section moves more freely.
Manufactured in PVC-U material, Durapipe Guardian allows the safe transportation of different fluids and some chemical concentrates without fear of corrosion and environmental pollution. Durapipe Guardian is available in sizes from ½”#2” up to 8”#12”.
