GEA Process Engineering wins major contract to build milk powder factory for Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods
GEA Process Engineering was recently awarded the contract to design and build a new production plant to manufacture milk powder for Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods in The Netherlands. For GEA Process Engineering the order is among the largest the company has received in the Dutch dairy industry.
The new facility is to be an extension to an existing Vreugdenhil production plant on the banks of the Merwede River in Gorinchem. GEA’s brief is to design, supply and install technologies for a second factory that will increase production by up to 35%. The output from the new plant is projected to be in the region of 48,000 tonnes per year or more than 7 tonnes of powdered milk per hour. In visual terms, it’s the equivalent of milking 50,000 cows. The order was signed in earlier this year and is scheduled to be completed with the plant going into full production in early 2015.
The project is to build a complete turnkey plant including milk reception, evaporation, drying and packaging facilities. GEA Process Engineering will be supplying the complete plant drawing on the company’s full scope of dairy process technologies and components – ranging from the milk reception through standardization, evaporation and drying to powder transport and packing.
The contract is a good example of how GEA has the resources to provide turnkey plants for its customers. Providing the whole plant from a single source aids good communication during project management and installation, takes full advantage of the synergies between compatible equipment, and helps reduce operational costs long term.

Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods is a market leader in the Netherlands for exporting milk powder products around the world. The company was first established in the early twentieth century and currently operates four production facilities across the Netherlands.
