Listen to this article

Lucchini UK put fellow manufacturers on the right track to business success when the train wheel and axle and gearbox maker invited them into its Trafford Park factory.

The free event was part of The Manufacturing Institute”s Profit Programme and guests learned more about the £2.4m package of funded support that is available to help them  increase efficiency, drive sales and marketing, develop skills, unlock cashflow and  boost innovation.

Manufacturers  saw excellence in action during a factory tour and learned how Lucchini”s LukoMotion continuous improvement programme is boosting performance year-on-year.

Lucchini has more than 100 years history in Trafford Park. More recently, it has invested  £15m to make it a one-stop shop for passenger and freight wheelsets and gearboxes. The Manufacturing Institute is supporting Lucchini with its continuous improvement drive.

At the event, manufacturers were also given advice on claiming R&D tax credits by CLB Coopers, while HSBC provided guidance SME funding for export.

Dr Julie Madigan, Chief Executive of The Manufacturing Institute, said: “Lucchini”s business improvement journey provided valuable insights to the breakfast guests.  We are delighted to be contributing to Lucchini”s continued success through our Profit Programme. Other manufacturers in the North West are urged to tap into this support – starting with a fully funded business review session at their factory. This provides an opportunity to discuss current challenges with a manufacturing expert, who will listen carefully and then help create an action plan for immediate business performance improvement. Follow up subsidised consultancy, coaching and training support is available to implement the actions.”

The Manufacturing Institute is funding the Profit Programme, which is matched by support from the European Regional Development Fund.
