Certified Performance with Plate Heat Exchanger – thermowave Celebrated Twentieth Anniversary
Twenty years experience, especially for NH3 applications, leave their mark on the product portfolio: with the thermoPlus product line thermowave offers a whole range of semi-welded plate heat exchangers for pressures up to 50 bar on the welded side. Frame design and connections of all thermowave products can be adapted to the customer’s requirements. In 2008 thermowave launched one of the world’s biggest plates with the nominal diameter DN 250. The 3.5 m-high units are used for biogas cleaning by the fermentation facilities. The product line thermoClean has been developed for applications in the food and beverages industry. With their stainless steel clad frame these plate heat exchangers comply with the guidelines for “Hygienic Design”.
thermowave owes the high flexibility of its solutions to the possibility of combining different plate structures (corrugation depths and corrugation angel), plate thicknesses and materials (from stainless steel, to titanium or special nickel alloys). “Custom-designed solutions can be provided for every client by optimizing the technology (heat transfer and pressure drop, heat transfer surface and filling volume) and thus the price”, says Ralf Süßmann, technical director of thermowave Ltd.
Modern Certificated Manufacture
thermowave was established in 1992. The office and production hall were built in Berga halfway between Göttingen and Leipzig one year later. The mass production was started in the following years and the sales activities were expanded into Europe, Asia and South America. The first plate heat exchangers for demanding applications in the chemical industry also date from the 1990s. A 6000 t plate press and a 2D CNC laser system were being used. The certification of the whole firm based on DIN ISO 9001 was achieved in 2001.
In order to satisfy increasing demands, a new production hall was built in 2007/2008, including not only a new 12000 t plate press with three cylinders to ensure extremely high accuracy for plate production, but also a second CNC laser system with 6 kW for laser welding and cutting of plates. The special mechanical design of thermowave modules with internal and external structural support relieves gaskets and welds, making thermowave the technology leader in module welded units for high pressure.
International Sales
Sales, R&D and marketing moved from headquarter Berga to an office in Leipzig, a second sales office was opened in Hildesheim. Growing business led to the creation of sales offices in France, Poland, Russia, China, and Singapore. Sales partners are in charge of other countries. The list of references reflects the internationality of the clients and some plate heat exchangers are even allowed to travel permanently: thermowave products were integrated into the first brewery installed on a cruise ship. The Johann Albrecht Brautechnik Munich brews three kinds of beer for thirsty passengers on the AIDAblu.
With the greater integration of into the Güntner Group thermowave is well-positioned for the future. The Güntner Group consists of established companies such as Güntner (air side heat transfer technology), JAEGGI hybrid technology and basetec for customer specific heat transfer solutions in the field of OEM. “Through working closely together and using synergy in the group, we will further perfect the portfolio of products and extend our share in the market in the next years”, says Ralf Süßmann.
About thermowave
thermowave Ltd. is a leading manufacturer of plate heat exchangers configured according to customer specifications in a wide range of materials, frame design and sizes. Its head office is in Berga halfway between Göttingen and Leipzig. The product portfolio covers everything from standard heat exchangers for HVAC applications to highly specialised apparatuses for industrial refrigeration, the food and beverages industry, the chemical and process industry, and the energy sector. All products are “Made in Germany” and are tested at one. Over 20 years experience and continuous development ensure the high quality standard.
Like Güntner AG & Co KG, worldwide leading manufacturer of components for refrigeration and air condition, JAEGGI hybrid technology AG and basetec products & solutions, thermowave also belongs to Güntner Group. As subsidiaries of A-HEAT AG (Allied Heat Technology AG) which is located in Vienna, these companies benefit from information and Know-How-Transfer which give the group members the critical impulses from synergy effects.
