ABB to present full technology offering at IWEX
ABB is reinforcing its expertise in water and wastewater treatment with a bigger stand (F20) than previous years, featuring its full range of products for water processes. A central feature of the stand is an automated interactive display demonstrating how ABB’s technologies can be integrated to help monitor and control water supplies.
The display features various examples from ABB’s instrumentation, drives, motors and low voltage product ranges, all controlled by ABB’s latest PLC technology with Profibus and Ethernet communications technology.
ABB engineers are offering expert advice on the latest legislation and issues affecting the water industry, including MCERTS, the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme and AMP cycle.
Among the new products launched on the stand is the ABB industrial drive with a series of in-built intelligent pump functions. These include flow calculation, soft pipe filling, pump cleaning (anti-ragging), multi-pump control, level control, pump auto change and pump priority. For clean water pumping systems, a sleep & boost option will also allow the drive to go to ‘sleep’ at low consumption times, but not before boosting the pressure to allow a longer sleep period.
“We have stepped up our presence at this year’s IWEX to demonstrate our full range of products, systems and expertise, which offer contractors, system integrators, consultants and major end-users exciting new possibilities to optimise their water management,” says Tim Door, ABB’s UK water industry manager. “Our aim is to emphasise ABB’s ability to provide complete integrated solutions for water and waste water treatment applications.”
ABB experts are giving a series of free seminars covering issues pertinent to the water industry.
Tony Hoyle, ABB UK Flow Product Manager, is discussing MCERTS and outlining the measures needed to ensure continued compliance between inspections. His seminar, entitled ‘Keeping up with MCERTS’, (IWEX seminar theatre, Thursday 22nd April, 13:35 – 13:55), covers the key factors that need to be considered, along with the technology and verification service routines that can help operators make sure they are fully prepared for their next inspection are covered.
Nick Brown, ABB Energy Appraisal Manager is explaining how companies can meet the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme with variable speed drives. According to European Union estimates, pumps use more energy than any other type of industrial equipment, consuming some 160 TWh of electric power and accounting for 79 million metric tons of CO2 emissions a year. His seminar is entitled ‘Meeting the carbon reduction commitment with variable speed drives’ (IWEX seminar theatre, Wednesday 21st April, 14:00 – 14:20)
