ABERDEEN LEARNS OF BREEAM AWARD
An innovative medical building recently received a coveted BREEAM 2008 Award at a ceremony in London. The new Suttie Centre for Teaching and Learning in Healthcare is currently nearing completion at Foresterhill in Aberdeen and is the result of a partnership between the University of Aberdeen and NHS Grampian.
The new £21m, 5-storey complex encompasses a range of environmental features that includes a wide range of energy efficient Grundfos pumps, pressurisation sets and an ultra-efficient Hydro MPCE booster set.
Delivering a building to such a high standard requires a team effort and there have been many differing partnerships to achieve this ‘sustainable best practice’ result. A good example of this is the collaboration between Grundfos Pumps Ltd and various parties who ensured that the best energy efficient pump solution was provided to the project. This included 10 x Grundfos TPE and MAGNA pumps a IMpress pressurisation set that was supplied via Taylor& Fraser and Pump Action and a ultra efficient Hydro MPC-E 3-pump booster was amongst other equipment supplied in association with Aberdeen Mechanical Services and BSS Aberdeen.
The BREEAM award has proved that the building is more than ‘fit for purpose’ and the overall project aim has been to deliver 1st class training facilities for a range of health professionals, adjacent to where they are needed, when they welcome their first students in September 2009. Grundfos are delighted to be playing a key ongoing role in contributing towards this important goal.
