Huntsman Advanced Materials presents new technologies to create higher efficiencies, lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions
Huntsman Advanced Materials offers a range of innovative materials for any manufacturer wanting advanced, sustainable solutions for today’s challenging world.

Increasing lighting efficiencies
Due to new EU regulatory restrictions for eliminating light bulbs, Huntsman has developed PROBIMER® 77 white – a new white solder mask for LED (light Emitting Diodes) based front and rear lighting applications.  Providing excellent chemical and thermal resistance and offering outstanding reflectivity of more than 85%, this product is set to transform the printed circuit board market for LED applications.   The low energy consumption of LEDs offers potential to contribute to a cleaner environment.
Sustainable mobility
Industry directives are focused on the development of high-performance composites to reduce the weight of vehicles, improve the car’s fuel economy and reduce the harmful effects of C02 emissions.  Drives to reduce pollution and support initiatives for renewable energy have also seen the rise of ‘e-drives’ or, electric and hybrid vehicles.
Huntsman has recently been involved in a project showcasing the possibilities of designing an electric concept car, the ‘U-Box’, using sustainable components.  The company researched and developed innovative, advanced materials to be used during each stage of the construction – from the preparation of moulds using seamless modelling pastes and boards to the application of high- performance composite parts and body panels, composite bonders, composite wheels and encapsulation solutions for electronic devices.
Visitors to the Huntsman stand are being invited to access the ‘touchscreen U-Box’ e-tool to find out more about the project and the company’s goals to balance technological advance with positive growth in the automotive sector through the delivery of sustainable processes and materials.

Cleaner and more advanced fuel cell technology

Huntsman has developed new benzoaxazine resins for lighter weight, ground breaking graphite composite fuel cell bipolar plates which offer significant benefits over standard metallic ones.  The fuel cell’s composite bipolar plates have superior corrosion resistance, lower contact resistance, higher thermal conductivity and a longer operating life at higher temperatures.
Since the conversion of energy to fuel takes place via an electrochemical process, it is much cleaner, quieter and up to three times more efficient than burning fuel.
Huntsman’s benzoaxazine resins enable the use of cost effective high volume manufacturing techniques that lower the costs of bipolar plates and could potentially lead to the widespread adoption of hydrogen based fuel systems.
