Amarinth delivers £1.5M chemical injection skid order for Nigeria’s LNG fields

Listen to this article

Pump manufacturer Amarinth has successfully manufactured and delivered a £1.5 million order for four bespoke API 675 chemical injection skid packages destined for Nigeria’s Soku and Gbaran LNG fields in the Niger Delta.

The project supports critical gas production infrastructure supplying feed gas to the Nigeria LNG (NLNG) plant at Finima on Bonny Island. Operating environments across the Niger Delta are widely recognised as some of the most demanding in the global oil and gas industry. High humidity, aggressive process conditions and complex logistics all place significant demands on equipment reliability and long term operational integrity.

To support the safe and efficient operation of assets managed by Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, Amarinth’s chemical injection skids will perform precision dosing functions essential for preventing pipeline corrosion and minimising scale formation within process systems.

Chemical injection systems supporting LNG production

Chemical injection plays a crucial role in upstream oil and gas production, particularly in LNG feed gas infrastructure where uninterrupted flow assurance and asset protection are essential. The skids supplied by Amarinth are designed to ensure highly accurate dosing of treatment chemicals that protect pipelines and process equipment operating in challenging offshore and onshore environments.

The delivered order consists of two specialised skid packages designed to address multiple process treatment requirements:

Package 1

  • Biocide Injection Skid
  • Oxygen Scavenger Injection Skid

Package 2

  • Biocide Injection Skid
  • Scale Inhibitor Injection Skid

Biocides are used to control microbiological activity that can accelerate corrosion within pipelines and process systems. Oxygen scavengers remove dissolved oxygen that would otherwise contribute to corrosive conditions. Scale inhibitors prevent the formation of mineral deposits that can restrict flow, reduce efficiency and damage production infrastructure.

Together these chemical treatment processes help maintain pipeline integrity, protect capital assets and support stable LNG feed gas production.

API 675 compliant chemical injection skid design

Each skid has been engineered to meet the rigorous requirements of the API 675 standard for controlled volume chemical injection pumps. This internationally recognised specification ensures high accuracy, reliability and repeatable dosing performance in demanding oil and gas applications.

The systems incorporate advanced instrumentation and control technology including actuated valves and remote monitoring transmitters. These features enable operators to monitor and adjust chemical injection rates from central control rooms, allowing for precise control over dosing levels while maintaining operational safety.

Remote monitoring capability also supports predictive maintenance strategies and enables operators to maintain consistent chemical treatment regimes across large scale gas production infrastructure.

Engineered for rapid installation in challenging environments

Recognising the logistical and operational constraints associated with installations in the Niger Delta region, Amarinth designed the skids to minimise installation complexity and on site labour requirements.

Each unit was fully pre assembled and factory tested before shipment. Structural elements, instrumentation and critical spare parts were all included within the supplied packages. This ensured that the skids arrived on site in a fully integrated condition and were effectively ready for rapid installation and commissioning.

Delivering equipment in a ready to run configuration significantly reduces hazardous work activities at site locations and helps streamline project schedules. It also reduces the need for extensive field assembly within facilities that may already be operating at capacity.

Bespoke skid frame design for existing infrastructure

For the Soku LNG field installation, Amarinth engineered a bespoke structural frame designed to carry the skid packages while fitting precisely over the footprint of the facility’s existing concrete plinths.

This customised frame allowed the new equipment to be integrated seamlessly into the existing plant layout without requiring additional civil engineering work. Avoiding modifications to existing foundations reduced both project costs and installation time while ensuring the equipment could be accommodated within the dimensions of the standing facility.

Such bespoke engineering solutions are often essential when working within mature oil and gas installations where space constraints and infrastructure limitations can present significant challenges.

Logistics designed for efficient transport across Nigeria

Transport logistics were a key design consideration from the earliest stages of the project. Amarinth engineered the skids so that they could be housed within standard shipping containers for international transport.

This approach ensured the equipment could be transported through Nigerian road networks without requiring special permits or route dispensations. By eliminating the need for abnormal load transportation, the project team significantly reduced transit costs and avoided delays associated with complex transport approvals.

The containerised design also provided additional protection for sensitive instrumentation during long distance transport to the final installation sites.

Collaboration supporting local project delivery

The successful execution of the project was supported through close collaboration with Elkarino Nigeria Ltd., which played an important role in bridging the gap between international engineering expertise and regional project execution.

By combining Amarinth’s engineering design and manufacturing capabilities with Elkarino’s local knowledge and operational support within Nigeria, the project was delivered in line with both international technical standards and local operational requirements.

This collaborative approach ensured that the equipment could be integrated smoothly into the existing LNG production infrastructure while meeting the operating company's expectations.

Supporting Nigeria’s growing LNG infrastructure

Nigeria remains one of the most significant energy producers in Africa and continues to play an important role in global LNG supply. The Nigeria LNG facility on Bonny Island represents one of the country’s most strategically important energy assets, exporting liquefied natural gas to international markets.

Maintaining the integrity and reliability of feed gas infrastructure is essential to ensuring consistent LNG production. Precision chemical injection systems such as those supplied by Amarinth form a critical part of the flow assurance strategy that keeps pipelines and process systems operating safely and efficiently.

Reflecting on the successful delivery, Managing Director Oliver Brigginshaw said:

The delivery of these skids within a demanding 39-week timeframe is a testament to our engineering agility and our commitment to the African energy sector. Nigeria ranks tenth in global petroleum reserves, and this latest project further underlines our lead in providing sustainable, high-performance solutions for critical energy infrastructure around the globe.”
