Amarinth wins order for 27 magnetic drive pumps on ADNOC MERAM project

Amarinth has secured a contract from Engineering for the Petroleum and Process Industries (ENPPI) to supply 27 API 685 magnetic drive pumps for ADNOC’s Maximising Ethane Recovery and Monetisation (MERAM) Phase 2 project in Abu Dhabi.

The order follows the award of the EPC contract to ENPPI, with ADNOC endorsing Amarinth as its preferred partner for the critical pump package. The endorsement reflects the company’s track record of project delivery and more than 450 pumps already installed across ADNOC facilities.

The MERAM initiative is a major gas processing infrastructure development designed to increase ethane recovery and provide feedstock for downstream facilities.

API 685 pumps provide leak-free operation

The contract covers 27 magnetic drive pumps in horizontal and vertical configurations to meet different duty points and installation requirements across the plant.

Amarinth’s API 685 design was selected over conventional mechanically sealed API 610 pumps. The magnetic drive arrangement uses a stationary containment shell, with torque transferred from the motor through external and internal permanent magnets without direct mechanical contact.

This hermetically sealed construction eliminates leakage paths and prevents fugitive emissions and product loss. It also reduces maintenance requirements and equipment footprint while supporting reliable operation in demanding process conditions.

Nitrogen purge system addresses HAZOP requirements

A key engineering challenge emerged during the project’s Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) reviews, which identified potential risks associated with the pump drain line system.

High back pressure in the drain line can restrict the removal of liquid and vapour during shutdown, flushing and maintenance. Trapped volatile hydrocarbons can then create safety and operational risks.

To address this, Amarinth developed an integrated nitrogen purge system. The design uses a controlled positive-pressure nitrogen sweep through the pump casing and containment shell to overcome downstream drain line back pressure.

This enables volatile fluids and trapped vapours to be evacuated safely into the disposal system, supporting effective isolation and personnel protection during inspection and maintenance without releasing hydrocarbons into the atmosphere.

Phased deliveries support project schedule

To meet demanding EPC schedules, Amarinth has developed a supply chain model that integrates component suppliers, foundry partners and production planning. The approach is designed to manage manufacturing risks and avoid common production bottlenecks.

The company reports an on-time delivery record of 98% across large and complex split-order contracts.

The 27-pump order has been divided into three delivery phases to align with ENPPI’s construction and installation programme. Manufacturing is underway, with the first batch scheduled for delivery in autumn 2026.

Oliver Brigginshaw, managing director of Amarinth, said: “We are delighted to receive this significant order from ENPPI for ADNOC’s MERAM Phase 2 project. ADNOC’s insistence on working with Amarinth is a testament to the trust they place in our engineering expertise and our proven ability to deliver complex projects on time.

“This contract also underlines the technical innovation of our engineering team in designing a unique nitrogen purge solution that directly answers the project’s HAZOP and back-pressure challenges. Combined with our agile supply chain model, which consistently achieves 98% on-time delivery, we look forward to delivering the first batch this autumn and providing seamless support throughout the installation phase.”
