AXION SEEKS PARTNERS TO BOOST SCOTTISH PLASTICS RECYCLING

Listen to this article

Axion Group, the UK’s specialist in innovative resource recovery, is looking to work with partners following the Scottish Government’s recent announcement of a £5 million capital grant programme to develop plastics reprocessing infrastructure in Scotland.

The Zero Waste Scotland initiative aims to divert a minimum of 20,000 additional tonnes of plastic waste from landfill each year. Currently only 15,000 tonnes of Scotland’s annual 200,000 tonnes of household plastic waste is collected for recycling.

Axion is seeking partners who wish to develop mixed-plastics processing projects and operate the plants themselves, with the emphasis on offering a ‘facilitator’ service. This includes help with business planning, preparing the grant application and liaison with the Zero Waste Scotland programme. Applications must be in by the end of August 2010.

Axion expects to focus on assisting Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs), waste management companies or similar organisations with technical advice on how to improve their existing operations, or develop new ones.

“The idea is to help firms go from an idea to a fully-delivered project. We’re not proposing to be players in the household plastics recycling arena; merely providers of know-how, knowledge, project management and engineering,” says Director Keith Freegard.

“This scheme offers exciting potential to collect and recover more plastic waste, cost-effectively and efficiently, for re-use in new products and to reduce the environmental impact and cost of its disposal.

“Given our considerable experience in this sector and success with solutions for mixed waste plastics, we are very interested in hearing from companies who want to pursue this valuable opportunity,” adds Keith.

Axion Group develops and operates innovative resource recovery and processing solutions for recycling waste materials. The Group works with a wide range of clients, from Government agencies and local authorities to companies in diverse commercial sectors, on the practical development of new processing and collection methods to recover value from waste resources.
