Babcock Wanson Expands Range to Large Shell Boilers and Heat Recovery Steam Generators for high-demand applications
Babcock Wanson UK has announced a major expansion of its product portfolio. Now the company can offer large high pressure firetube boilers up to 50barg with outputs up to 70 tonnes per hour and watertube boilers up to 90barg and 150 tonnes per hour, together with a full range of heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs).
This development makes Babcock Wanson UK the only company in the country, able to supply the complete spectrum of industrial boiler solutions, from compact coil type steam generators to large high-output watertube systems designed for the most demanding industrial environments.
Large-scale boiler technology has been introduced by Babcock Wanson following the integration of German manufacturer VKK Standardkessel into the wider Babcock Wanson Group. This means that the full range from VKK Standardkessel is now available in the UK, fully supported by Babcock Wanson's well-established local engineering, service and project delivery capabilities.
By marrying VKK's advanced German engineering with its own expertise in total system design, installation, commissioning and ongoing maintenance, Babcock Wanson UK can supply customers with high-capacity boiler systems which precisely meet their needs and comply fully with UK regulations.
The VKK portfolio now offered through Babcock Wanson UK spans an extensive range of industrial energy applications, from single and double flame watertube boilers to hot water boilers, high-pressure steam generators with or without superheaters and HRSGs suitable for combined heat and power schemes.
The innovative Condor range combines watertube and firetube principles to deliver a compact, high-efficiency system producing low-emission superheated steam. Capacities extend from 2 to 70 tonnes of steam per hour with operating pressures up to 38 bar and temperatures up to 450°C, while hot water boilers can be supplied up to 50 MW and 30 bar.
To support the energy transition, the Condor range is also available in electric and hybrid configurations. Hybrid Condor systems integrate flanged electric heaters alongside conventional combustion, helping operators reduce CO2 emissions, respond flexibly to energy pricing, and maintain valuable standby capacity.
Full electric Condor boilers are available up to 11 MW. They deliver more than 99% efficiency and offer a practical route to zero-emission steam and hot water generation in industrial settings.
VKK HRSGs further extend the capabilities of Babcock Wanson UK in supporting industrial decarbonization and energy efficiency. These systems recover waste heat from gas turbines, CHP plants, and other high-temperature processes. They can also be supplied with auxiliary firing for increased steam output. The VKK HRSGs are designed for high reliability, rapid response, and long operating life, enabling operators to reduce fuel use and lower environmental impact.
Commenting on the expanded product range, Etienne Fourie, Technical Sales Manager for Babcock Wanson UK’s Process Engineering Division, says: “The addition of VKK Standardkessel boilers and HRSGs significantly broadens Babcock Wanson UK’s portfolio, making it unique in the UK for its capability to supply and support both firetube and watertube boilers up to the highest output levels. This positions us as the partner of choice for customers looking for energy efficiency, reliability, and a full lifecycle approach to boiler house operations.”
