Babcock Wanson launches new energy efficient PowerPack firetube boilers
Key points
Industrial process heat specialist Babcock Wanson Group has launched its new PowerPack range of firetube boilers, which can achieve extremely high efficiency with low fuel costs and reduced emissions. Designed with the advantage of the most recent boiler design technology, the PowerPack range not only meets the most demanding European environmental regulations but can exceed these when combined with Babcock Wanson combustion plant.
Babcock Wanson manufactures the whole package; boiler, burner, combustion controls and boiler controls, in one organisation with sole responsibility and individually matched design.
Low energy usage with high output
With steam outputs from 10,000 kg/h to 34,000 kg/h, PowerPack performance is guaranteed by precise matching of the combustion head and burner. This provides precise control of excess air across the modulating range and minimizes start/stop cycling.
The boilers are also built with low electrical consumption. Very low gas side pressure reduces the power demand on fans considerably, and variable speed feedwater drives and combustion air improve efficiency further.
Maximum efficiency of 103% (based on LHV) is possible if PowerPack boilers are equipped with a Babcock Wanson economiser and heat recovery system.
Built to be durable and dependable
Environmental benefits are also maximized by the extended lifespan and robust build of the PowerPack. Its three-pass, flue gas tubular reversing chamber design, unique to Babcock Wanson, dispenses with the need for furnace tube tie rods, usually the focus of periodic replacement. Refractory requirements are likewise minimized, allowing the boiler to maintain high levels of steam demand fluctuations while restricting mechanical stress on the pressure body. This allows for extended, trouble-free operation.
Ease of maintenance and safe access
In maintenance, PowerPack boilers provide convenient access through large furnace tube and tubeplate doors at the front, side openings, and a rear inspection port. Safe access to mountings is provided by a two-level platform, facilitating easier operation and servicing.
Advanced controls and monitoring
Each PowerPack boiler is supplied with high specification instrumentation and controls to provide effective, cost-effective performance. The Navinergy system facilitates local operation from the boiler HMI and remote monitoring using a web interface. Babcock Wanson's own unattended operating modes (three days, seven days and even 30 days of uninterrupted operating within approved parameters) provide operators with flexibility.
Flexible solutions for many applications
Becoming highly variable, the PowerPack series may be equipped with a wide variety of options including economisers, combustion air preheaters, CO and Oâ‚‚ trim plants, and superheater configurations.
The PowerPack firetube boiler is the latest addition to Babcock Wanson's range of industrial boilers to supplement other coil type steam generators, thermal oil heaters, hot water boilers, water tube boilers, VOC and odour treatment by thermal oxidation, water treatment systems and process air heating solutions.
With this expanded range of products, Babcock Wanson remains committed to helping UK and European industry maximise energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact through new boiler technology and robust service provision.
