Listen to this article
  • BioPure’s new site will increase provision of vital fluid components to the biopharmaceutical industry
  • The facility is five times the size of BioPure’s previous location
  • Product consistency and quality are ensured via revalidation of each machine

Biopharmaceutical fluid path component provider, BioPure, part of Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group (WMFTG), receives the keys for its custom-built facility at Dunsbury Park, with production due to begin in March 2022. Beginning construction in 2019, the new facility is five times the size of the company’s previous two buildings combined and will provide much needed additional capacity to support the company’s ongoing growth and provide the best service to its customers.

BioPure has pioneered the design, development and delivery of innovative engineering solutions for customers in the global biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries since 1998. The company became part of WMFTG in 2014 and has experienced and this is set to continue over the next five years.

Comprising 120,000 sq. ft, this new facility will help to support BioPure’s ambitious vision, growth and commitment to supporting customers worldwide. The company’s key aims include simplifying production operations, lowering cGMP manufacturing costs and reducing process validation.

The new facility, based just 4 miles from the current site in Portsmouth, is now home to BioPure’s current team of 232 employees and aims to bring on a diverse range of new talent in manufacturing, engineering, production, design, assembly, logistics and administration. The expansion will create 130 new jobs across a range of disciplines and the company is looking for talented individuals to join the team.

To ensure customers receive products and services of the highest quality, the company will continue to use existing production equipment at the new site. There will be no change in raw materials, nor will there be any change in processing equipment or process methods.

Revalidation of each moulding machine and metrology comparison with products from the old manufacturing process has ensured that there is no change to the fit, form or function of BioPure’s products.

About us

Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group (WMFTG) peristaltic tube and hose pumps meet requirements including: value for money; low cost of ownership; reliability and ease of maintenance to the food and beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, mining and many other industries.

We demonstrate how pumps deliver significant process efficiencies over the lifetime of the equipment. Whether performing flavouring addition in food processing, chemical metering in water treatment or mineral recovery, we have a solution which can cut pump downtime and reduce costs through higher accuracy metering and transfer. WMFTG has dedicated application engineers available to help customers make the right pump and tubing choice from a range providing microlitres per minute to 80 cubic metres per hour flow rates.

The only part of the pump to come into contact with the product is the tube or hose. This means there are no seals or valves that can wear or fail. Replacing the tube or hose can be performed quickly and safely. Peristaltic pump benefits include:

Total fluid containment with no seals No ancillaries Handle viscous and abrasive slurries and sludge Self-priming capability Dry running without damage to the pump In addition to their range of positive displacement pumps, Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group has added PTFE-lined chemical and industrial hoses to their range.
