Chemineer Mixers suit sulphur recovery in Saudi

Listen to this article

Leading mixer manufacturer Chemineer is continuing its successful run of sulphur recovery projects by providing seven new units to a new refinery in Saudi Arabia, due to be completed in 2013.

Three 46” Chemineer High Efficiency Vortex (HEV) mixers and four smaller KMS Kenics static mixer units will be introduced to the sulphur and acid gas collection/recovery process.

Chemineer’s HEV, which can handle all turbulent-flow mixing applications regardless of line size or shape, achieves optimum mixing from controlled vortex structures generated by the patented low-profile tab geometry. This provides uniform blending while limiting mixer length to less than 1-1/2 pipe diameters. Ideal for processes where pressure loss and length are critical, the HEV provides complete mixing with pressure losses 75% less than conventional static mixers.

Chemineer’s Kenics KM Series Static Mixers are designed with a helical mixing element that directs the flow of material radially toward the pipe walls and back to the centre. Additional velocity reversal and flow division results from combining alternating right- and left-hand elements, thus increasing mixing efficiency. All material is continuously and completely mixed, eliminating radial gradients in temperature, velocity and material composition.

This latest contract for Chemineer follows a recent sulphur recovery order to supply four 56” static mixers for a gas field development in Turkmenistan.
