CompAir lowers energy costs at world’s oldest brewery

Listen to this article

A D22H RS oil-free compressor from CompAir has helped the world’s oldest brewery to achieve a 30% reduction in its compressed air energy costs.

The Weihenstephan brewery in Freising, near Munich aims to manufacture with the most efficient use of resources and during the last few years has embarked on a programme of energy reduction.

When the brew house and bottling plant are both inactive, the brewery requires only 1.5 m3 of compressed air per minute.  As a result, the brewery opted for a CompAir oil-free, regulated speed D22H RS compressor from CompAir that could economically provide these smaller output volumes.

The compressor generates totally oil-free compressed air, making it ideally suited for the brewery’s stringent hygiene requirements.  Water is used to lubricate, seal and cool the compression process, providing low compression temperatures of just 60°C – contributing to low power consumption.
