CONDITION MONITORING GETS CLEVER FOR GEAR UNITS

Listen to this article

Companies as diverse as cement makers and offshore windfarm suppliers are making significant cost savings through the greater use of condition monitoring, with on-site and remote services from Siemens Mechanical Drives for mechanical handling and power generation applications.

By monitoring the wear characteristics and other aspects of gear units – envelope, acceleration and velocity frequencies – Siemens engineers identify when gears/geared motors require servicing, maintenance or replacement.

Through this type of monitoring plant availability can be maximised, unscheduled breakdowns avoided and savings made on remote, hard-to-access sites.

Siemens GearControl provides graphic readouts for accurate, early fault diagnosis, on all larger types of gears/geared motors.  Comprehensive reports are then provided to customers.  The system is suitable for larger gears/geared motors, and is also suitable for use on competitors’ geared drives.
