Deep Water Blue raises boiler safety and performance with CEA-endorsed training

Listen to this article

Deep Water Blue is enhancing boiler safety and operational performance with its CEA-endorsed Steam Boiler Water Treatment Training, an intensive two-day course accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry. Designed specifically for boiler operators, engineers and managers, the training translates BG04 Boiler Water Treatment Guidance and HSE INDG436 requirements into clear, actionable practices directly applicable in the boiler house.

boiler performance training

Drawing on more than 20 years of specialist experience in boiler water treatment and steam system management, Deep Water Blue combines rigorous technical content with practical, hands-on sessions and a one-hour assessment. Successful delegates receive a CEA-branded ID card and certificate, valid for five years, giving employers tangible evidence of compliance, training and due diligence.

The course addresses the primary causes of boiler water treatment failures and unplanned downtime, focusing on real-world plant conditions, testing routines and corrective actions aligned with BG04 and industry best practice. Delegates learn to identify developing problems, interpret water quality test results, and effectively challenge external contractors when necessary, protecting both critical assets and energy budgets.

Training is delivered at dedicated centres, customer sites and online, offering flexible access for NHS trusts, universities, manufacturing plants and other critical facilities. Recent programmes have seen over 70 personnel complete CEA steam boiler water training through Deep Water Blue, benefiting from interactive classroom and virtual formats that reinforce learning and engagement.

One NHS Estates Manager, having completed the BG04 course, commented:The course covered a lot of information, delivered in concise chunks that were easy to absorb. The structure was clear, logical and effective, and it gave me the confidence to implement new testing techniques and to understand the importance of water treatment as an engineer and not as a chemist.” Another participant from EDF Energy said: “Very good, very informative. Gave us everything we could want. We learnt a lot.

The Combustion Engineering Association highlights that the vast majority of boiler incidents result from poor management of boiler water treatment, making focused, accredited training essential for duty holders.

CEA endorsed training

Deep Water Blue developed this course in partnership with the CEA to address this gap, delivering material in plain English so operators and managers can immediately apply learning on site.

To support long-term competence, Deep Water Blue also offers pre-course introductory training, on-demand video learning and follow-up site visits, reinforcing skills and embedding robust boiler water management practices. This continuous approach helps organisations achieve safe, efficient and compliant boiler operation, extend plant life and reduce total cost of ownership.

Deep Water Blue has confirmed dates throughout 2026 for its two-day Steam Boiler Water Treatment courses, all hosted at the company’s Training & Technical Centre in Stevenage. The training remains a vital resource for organisations seeking to improve boiler efficiency, reduce downtime and ensure regulatory compliance.
