Dr Ewan Goodier has become the latest industry specialist to join Eclipse Magnetics’ design engineering team as Product and Business Development Manager.
As a key member of the magnetic’s team, Dr Goodier will be working with customers to develop value adding magnetic solutions for bespoke applications of any complexity. He will also provide full technical support and advice to customers.
With a doctorate in the application of magnetic technologies to improve motor efficiency, Dr Goodier will also work with customers to improve the performance and efficiency of existing products, processes and components in a wide range of specialist industries.
Based at Eclipse Magnetics’ Sheffield headquarters, Dr Goodier will be working with customers in a range of sectors including automotive, motor, generator, industrial, electronics and aerospace, amongst others.
“My first priority is to understand what the customer is trying to do and then identify the best magnetic technology to help them achieve it,” said Dr Goodier. “That could range from improving the performance of a motor or generator through to using magnetic technology to create a sealed magnetic pump capable of dealing with toxic substances for greater environmental security.”
Dr Goodier first began developing his specialist design knowledge whilst doing his PhD in the field of Higher Efficiency Electrical Machines through the application of novel magnetic technologies, and later from his extensive applications design work within a variety of industries.
His market-leading knowledge will also be invaluable to customers looking for more compact, ultra high strength magnets, those made from rare and unusual materials as well as those capable of working in extreme temperatures and conditions.

Dr Goodiers role will utilise 2D and 3D magnetic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software to model magnetic products and assemblies. His background in magnetic technologies and experience of working with specialist industries will allow him to develop standard and bespoke solutions. These can be integrated into existing or new customer designs.
