EDDY-CURRENT SEPARATORS SUITABLE FOR FINE PARTICLES

Listen to this article

Goudsmit Magnetic Systems BV from Waalre exhibits a recently developed Eddy Current separator at the IFAT in München (Stand C2-523), suitable for superfine fractions. Where before particles starting from approximately 3 mm could be prima separated, with the new technology this is possible starting from approximately 0.5 mm. The recent development ECS is performed with a 36HI-pole magneto generator. This 36 stands for 36 pole pairs and the HI stands for High Intensity, which means that the field is strengthened in a very special way. For example, this makes it possible to separate thin copper threads (starting from appr. 0.5 mm). The consequence is that residual current that still contains valuable metals, but was too expensive for metal separation, becomes interesting again for potential processors.

Separation knife
Eddy Current separators mainly separate non-ferrous metals, such as aluminium and yellow metals (copper, brass etc.). To be able to separate superfine fractions well from scrap and/or bulk streams, it is also necessary to realize a perfect pre-de-ironizing. As there are no more iron parts in the stream, the separation knife can be set as sharp and tight as possible for an optimal result. In order to be able to separate these iron parts into their smallest dimension, for example, a drum magnet of 9000 Gauss can be integrated between the shaker conveyor and the Eddy-Current conveyor belt. For an optimal separation it is also important to generate the highest possible power on the belt as well as a large number of pole shifts. These two parameters determine mainly the success of the separation, in addition to all standard process optimizations such as conveyor speed, capacity and setting of the partition bulkhead.
