Emerson Process Management and Optimal join forces to produce a full PAT solution for life sciences industries
Online analytics and recipe management technologies will enable faster product release to the market.
Emerson Process Management and Optimal Industrial Automation Ltd. have formed an alliance that integrates Optimal’s synTQ® PAT data management package with Emerson’s PlantWeb® digital plant architecture. The alliance delivers a Process Analytical Technology (PAT) solution that fully utilises existing automation investments and has the scalability to deliver stand-alone PAT solutions for R&D laboratories, or deliver an integrated DeltaV™ or Syncade™ PAT solution for manufacturing floors.
“Emerson now has a full PAT solution,” said Saroj Patnaik, director, life sciences, from Emerson’s global industry solutions group. “Global trends like changing disease profiles, the increasing ageing population and government-run health care, will demand more-for-less manufacturing methods. Producing more safe products in smaller quantities across the world in a cost effective manner, is a daunting task for our customers. We believe PAT has the promise to be the holy grail of real-time release of products. The Emerson/synTQ alliance will help our customers meet these cost pressures by fully utilising their existing automation investment.”
The synTQ data management package, in concert with the DeltaV™ automation system, monitors the manufacturing process holistically and adjusts the process to continually optimise product quality. This technology requires both accurate and real-time information as to how critical-to-quality product attributes are varying as the process progresses, and adjusts the process to continually optimise these parameters. Optimal’s synTQ software product collects real-time instrument analytical data together with the control system’s univariate data and derives the necessary critical-to-quality product information in real-time. The trends in this critical-to-quality information can then be used by synTQ and the control system to steer the process to improve product quality together with timely manufacturing execution.
“We are gratified to have this formal alliance in place with Emerson,” said Martin Gadsby, director of Optimal Industrial Automation. “This alliance is a good fit for us. This alliance expands the synTQ package with a global sales and support capability from Emerson. Additionally, synTQ provides our clients with a best-in-class PAT Data Management System with the full support of Emerson. Our projected development path for the synTQ package is to more tightly integrate it with Emerson’s PlantWeb architecture. The important value to the customer is its ability to integrate seamlessly to customers’ preferred analytical instruments and lab systems.”
