Fact sheet Grundfos Blueflux® label introduced for energy-efficient motors

The energy challenge
•    2/3 of all pumps use up to 60% too much energy
•    Motors currently account for more than 30% of all the electrical power consumed in the EU. Over 20% of the power used by motors is used to drive pumps.
•    Pumps presently consume 10% of the world’s electrical power.
•    With more than 110 million of them installed in the professional sectors alone, the potential for savings due to improved efficiency is massive.

Upcoming EuP standards
•    The Energy Using Product (EuP) motor directive is a set of strict new standards for motor efficiency. The directive introduces a new efficiency scale and has three steps.
1. From 16 June, 2011 all motors must meet the IE2 standard.
2. From 1 January, 2015 all 7.5 kW ≤ electric motors ≤ 375 kW must either meet the IE3 standard or the IE2 standard equipped with a variable frequency drive (VFD).
3. By 2017 all 0.75 kW ≤ electric motors ≤ 375 kW must either meet the IE3 standard or the IE2 standard equipped with a variable frequency drive (VFD)

The benefits of the EuP
•    With the EuP motor directive we can save 5% of the EU’s electrical energy by 2020, this is because 90% of existing relevant motors will fall short of the new minimum efficiency requirements.
•    From 2020 the directive will result in savings of 135 TWh annually. This will mean an annual reduction in CO2 emissions of 63 million tonnes. That is equivalent to the annual residential electrical energy consumption of 83 million people.
•    Every level of industry will be compelled to make changes

Grundfos Grundfos Blueflux® solutions can meet the energy challenge NOW
