Flywheel Metallic Disc Couplings for Demanding Gas Compression Applications

Listen to this article

The new range of Metastream L Series Flywheel metallic disc couplings from John Crane combine proven performance with zero maintenance requirements, representing a true ‘fit and forget’ solution.

The LSFS & LLFS flywheel couplings are specifically designed to provide a cost-effective solution for demanding gas compression applications. They offer many benefits including easy installation, phosphate-coated hubs and spacers machined from carbon steel bar for corrosion protection, plus overload & anti-fly protection features.

With no relative moving parts they require no lubrication or maintenance and are designed to provide a genuine ‘fit and forget’ infinite-life solution. The disc packs have been designed to optimize their torque capability while minimizing the reaction forces due to misalignment, and so they reduce machinery vibration and maximize bearing life. L Series couplings also incorporate reliable overload collars to protect the disk pack in the event of severe torsional overload.

They can be specified by their torque capacity, with the most appropriate flywheel adapter being chosen to accurately fit the flywheel of the driving engine. Stainless steel discs are supplied in unitized packs for ease of fitting, and the all-steel construction allows the coupling to be balanced if required. The design of the L Series couplings features fitted bolts for maximum balance integrity, and a cut-out which allows access to the bolts without the need to remove the coupling from the equipment it is attached to.
