Fully Integrated Proximity Probes Reduce Time and Cost

Listen to this article

Condition monitoring specialists SENSONICS continue to expand their extensive portfolio of proximity sensors, including the fully integrated PRI Series. Part of the well-established Senturion range of proximity probes, these offer cutting-edge solutions for vibration and position measurement.

A prime example is the PRI04 Proximity Probe, which, unlike most other proximity probes, includes all of the required components in one piece: a calibrated probe, an extension cable and, most importantly, an integral driver. The result is a total probe integration with compatibility to API 670 systems.

Based on the principle of eddy currents, the PRI04 is benefited by coupling a tuned circuit with the target material. The probe face to target distance changes are detected in this circuit by the integral driver, which produces very accurate vibration and relative position measurements.

The probe produces a linearised output voltage proportional to the target gap, with a typical sensitivity of 7.87 mV/µm and a measuring range of up to 2.5mm.

This measuring system is very precise, with resolution typically less than one micrometre and thus is extremely well-suited for application under harsh conditions with temperatures up to 120ĀŗC. Due to the on-board electronics, the temperature range for the probe is limited to 120ĀŗC and is therefore ideal for vibration measurement on pumps, fans and hydroelectric generators.

By eliminating the need for a separate driver and accompanying accommodation, the PRI Series provides significant cost savings without sacrificing measurement accuracy. In addition, the fully integrated assembly enhances immunity to signal interference by removing the probe-to-driver link cable.

With 5m or 10m flexible cable length options, the probe provides easy connection to equipment with the capability to drive up to 500m of cable to the connecting system without a loss in accuracy.
