Green Solutions MV Drive Offers Operational Flexibility and Cost Savings
Severn Drives announces the MVC 4000 series Green Solutions MV Drive for voltages from 2.3kV up to 13.8kV.
With a power range up to 17.2MW, the EU compliant, multi level frequency drive can be readily retrofitted with existing motors and pumps for a range of medium voltage applications.
The MVC 4000 series offers significant installation advantages and operational cost savings compared with conventional variable frequency drives (VFDs). Designed from the outset for ease of deployment, the MV Drive does not require an active front-end harmonic filter, plus full input voltage can be applied to the drive without the need to a stepdown transformer. Moreover, there are no motor bearing current issues or drive related motor heating, ensuring maximum motor service life.
Available in both standard and regenerative formats, the MVC 4000 series supports very long cable runs up to 22km. It is designed for a broad range of applications from pumps, conveyors and fans to high performance industrial applications such as hydraulic drives and offshore wind turbines. The MV Drive also provides synchronous motor / asynchronous motor control mode together with a fully synchronised grid connection.
“The MVC 4000’s multi-level frequency with very low harmonics means it is particularly motor friendly, making it ideal for existing motors as well as new projects,” says Jonathan Jones, general manager, Severn Drives. “It also offers a high degree of operational flexibility with the ability to bypass cells, enabling the drive to run at reduced output, if required.”
Proven low harmonic multi level modular technology, with sensorless speed control, allows fine-tuning of the drive’s performance. Taken together with fan and pump sensorless vector and encoder feedback control options, the MVC 4000 Green Solutions Drive delivers significant savings in running costs.
Jonathan Jones again, “The MVC 4000 series is fully certified for EU compliance. It offers OEMs and systems integrators a broader range of configuration options for a range of motor types than is currently available with VFDs.”
The MVC 4000 series is available as rack mounted cabinets. The Transformer Cabinet includes: multi-winding, phase shifting, and multi-phase rectifier. The Power Cabinet’s modular design, for ease of maintenance, includes AC-DC-AC converter and pulse-width modulation (PWM) control. The third element, Control Cabinet, uses TI-DSP (digital signal processing) digital control and offers Modbus / Profibus / TCP communications.
