Huntsman chemistries champion advanced processing and cost-competitive manufacturing techniques at JEC Paris 2012
At JEC 2012 Huntsman Advanced Materials will focus on the growing importance of high performance chemistries as enablers for new, cost-competitive manufacturing techniques and the further penetration of composites across a number of industry sectors.

Solutions supporting increasing demands for fast cure cycles in automotive manufacturing
Meeting growing demands for fast processing and shorter production cycles, Huntsman will highlight resin systems particularly suitable for out-of-autoclave processes such as high pressure resin transfer molding (HP-RTM) or compression molding.
While aerospace-derived prepreg materials for autoclave cure have traditionally been used within the racing and high-value automotive sectors, out-of-autoclave processes are increasingly providing unparalleled efficiencies in terms of cost, production rates, quality and performance.
Huntsman’s resin systems for high pressure Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) and compression molding are already proven in offering advanced processing properties and significant production time savings for out-of-autoclave processing – the former enabling production cycles as short as three minutes and the latter assisting with cycles of less than one minute.
With an extensive range of formulated systems that are proven to fulfil the processing and performance requirements of the automotive market for composites, Huntsman is able to cater to the sector’s needs, from concept design to finished part – more effectively than ever before.
Certified infusion resin systems for wind blades and other large composite structures
Huntsman offers a comprehensive range of Germanischer Lloyd (GL) approved Araldite® epoxy resin systems which meet stringent processing and performance requirements for wind blades manufacturing.
Huntsman has adapted its resin systems for a range of processes, including wet lay-up, infusion and prepreg systems.
Composite bonders for the ultimate performance in structural bonding
Huntsman will also have on display the high strength composite bonder Araldite® AW 4858 / Hardener 4858 and the highly temperature resistant Araldite® AW 4859 / Hardener HW 4859. These epoxy based adhesives are available in cartridges and display lap shear strengths exceeding 35Mpa on composite parts.
New building blocks help formulators achieve measurable market value
Leveraging its core strengths in synthesis and formulation, at the show Huntsman will re-affirm its position as a supplier of high performance building blocks for formulators.
Highlights include:
· Di-tri-tetra functional epoxies: Providing formulators with a full set of “building blocks” for formulated composite and adhesive systems to improve thermal, mechanical and processing properties.
· Tougheners & flexibilizers: A range of liquid-to-solid molecules and polymers modifying the flexibility and / or impact resistance of formulated composite and adhesive systems.
· Epoxy hardeners: Designed for a wide range of processing conditions, Aradur® hardeners allow formulators to adapt curing kinetics of their systems as well as the structure of the cured network, from high cross-linking density to high flexibility.
· Benzoxazine resins: Solid resins combining medium to high glass transition temperature, high modulus, good to very good flame resistance, low water uptake and near zero shrinkage on curing. Also due for release this year are liquid benzoxazines acting as diluents for solid resins and catalysts that reduce curing temperature and the cure cycle.
