Huntsman re-affirms leading position in advanced chemistries for formulators at JEC Paris 2012
At JEC 2012, Huntsman Advanced Materials will focus on the growing importance of high performance chemistries as enablers for new, cost-competitive manufacturing techniques and the further penetration of composites across the aerospace sector.
New building blocks, in association with proven and qualified ones enable market differentiation for formulators
At the show, Huntsman will highlight its latest developments in speciality chemical building blocks alongside its well-recognized and established molecules, re-affirming its core strengths in synthesis and formulation while delivering differentiation and measurable market value to formulators in this sector.
Highlights include:
· High performance epoxy resins: Providing formulators with a full set of “building blocks” for formulated composite and adhesive systems to improve thermal, mechanical and processing properties. Alongside tri and tetra functional glycidylamines, such as Araldite® MY721 and Araldite® MY 0610, which are qualified resins for primary aircraft structures, Hunstman will highlight recently developed difunctional epoxy resins with very bulky chemical structures that reduce the brittleness of matrices without sacrificing thermal resistance.
· Tougheners & flexibilizers: A range of liquid-to-solid molecules and polymers modifying the flexibility and / or the impact resistance of formulated composite and adhesive systems. Huntsman will showcase different classes of products – from high temperature thermoplastics (Matrimid® 5218) to innovative elastomer-epoxy adducts and very powerful reactive flexibilizers (DY 0965) – which positively influence toughness and adhesion.
· Epoxy hardeners: Designed for a wide range of processing conditions, Aradur® hardeners and accelerators allow formulators to adapt curing kinetics of their systems as well as the structure of the cured network, from high cross-linking density to high flexibility. To name a few, Accelerator 3123 is a unique solid and easily dispersible latent catalytic hardener or accelerator with snap-cure behaviour. This will be presented together with developmental modified aromatic amines, providing DDS-like properties with different processing capabilities.
· Benzoxazine resins: Huntsman also offers aerospace type quality, solid difunctional resins, combining medium to high glass transition temperature, high modulus, good to very good flame resistance, low water uptake and near zero shrinkage on curing. With these properties, benzoxazines like Araldite® MT 35600 offer many advantages for formulating halogen-free systems to be used in producing composites, coatings, adhesives and encapsulants, amongst others. Also due for release this year is a liquid benzoxazine acting as a diluent for solid resins and a catalyst for reducing curing temperature and the cure cycle.
