Interpon helps SandenVendo boost sustainability
SandenVendo, the global leading producer of vending machines, is expanding its green ambitions due to Interpon powder coatings from AkzoNobel. The company has reduced energy consumption, waste and associated costs by adopting Interpon Redox One Coat, a one-coat high-performance corrosion protection solution.
SandenVendo is confidently proud of the quality and performance of its equipment even in more extreme climates where corrosion could become an issue. SandenVendo has been a leader in production for more than 80 years and opened its Northern Italian location in 1965 for its European manufacturing facility with the stated purpose of “designing a sustainable manufacturing system through the whole flow of supply chain, waste recycling and quality control.“.
In support of this vision, SandenVendo began to research the benefits of Interpon powder coatings some 30 years ago, with the appeal of freedom from volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which made the coating operation safer for its people, and with vision of the role that could be played by powder coatings in assisting it in its global sustainability objectives.
Most recently, the company began using Interpon Redox One Coat, offering all of the base Interpon Redox system's anti-corrosive performance but in a single application. This benefits SandenVendo by reducing energy consumption, waste and associated costs with the shorter production time.
SandenVendo recently increased the proportion of external vending machines powder coated with Interpon Redox One Coat from 10 % to 40 % of total production and all experience has been entirely positive. “The shift to Interpon Redox One Coat has significantly maximised powder usage, and the company is continuing to evaluate other powder coating technologies like Interpon's low energy (Low-E) which cures at reduced temperature,” says Paola Venesia, Purchasing Manager, SandenVendo Europe.
Switching to Interpon Redpo One Coat also helped SandenVendo become certified to ISO 50001, the energy-management standard. Gains in efficiency on the powder-coating line directly contributed to reduced electricity and gas consumption across the company.

With Interpon, SandenVendo has appreciated the quality of the products – their colour and durability. It currently makes an average of 90 units of equipment per day and with a second line going into production in the near term expects to increase this to around 130 by the end of 2025. Indoor and outdoor vending and coffee equipment utilise its vending and coffee equipment and Interpon coatings are applied to both the casing and some internal components.
The colours it chooses can be adapted to individual clients: “Every time we receive a new colour we always test its performance in a climatic chamber,” explains Paola, “so we can see how it behaves after some time. Our products have to resist water, humidity and heat, as well as sunlight, so the integrity of the colour is very important to us.“. We also test to ensure that the stickers applied adhere to the surface without peeling.

Through the use of Interpon Redox One Coat SandenVendo demonstrated how sustainable production and final performance are not mutually exclusive.
