Interpon D Futura 2026-2029 wins architectural coatings award
AkzoNobel Powder Coatings’ Interpon D Futura 2026-2029 Collection has won the Finishes + Surfaces – Paint & Coating category in The Architect’s Newspaper’s 2026 Best of Products Awards.
The award recognises the collection’s combination of architectural colour and finish options with the durability and performance requirements of commercial, residential, institutional and public buildings.
Selected by a jury of practising architects, designers and critics, The Architect’s Newspaper’s Best of Products Awards recognise products and solutions that are influencing the built environment.
Powder coatings combine design and durability
The superdurable Interpon D2525 Futura 2026-2029 Collection brings together established design influences with emerging architectural trends, providing architects and designers with a range of finishes for applications ranging from understated building facades to more expressive architectural designs.
The collection is divided into two complementary colour palettes.
High Serenity focuses on nature-inspired colours, including warm stone shades, calming metallics and muted browns. Bold Adventure provides a more energetic palette featuring earthy reds, deep blues and finishes designed to create glistening and sparkling effects.
The two palettes are intended to provide flexibility across different architectural environments, allowing designers to specify finishes for spaces intended for work, leisure and relaxation.
The latest collection builds on more than 20 years of Futura colour and finish development, incorporating updated colour forecasting and architectural research.
Superdurable coatings with lower-energy curing options
As part of the Interpon D2525 range, Futura 2026-2029 is included within AkzoNobel’s Interpon Eco+ portfolio of powder coatings, with sustainability features incorporated into the range.
In Europe and North America, the collection includes 15 Low-E colours. The technology allows coatings to cure at lower temperatures or at faster line speeds, potentially reducing energy consumption while improving operational efficiency during the coating process.
The range also uses bio-attributed raw materials, giving customers an option to reduce the carbon impact associated with material selection without having to specify a separate specialist or premium product.
Futura 2026-2029 includes 50 superdurable bonded metallic powder coatings compliant with AAMA 2604. The range offers warranties of up to 20 years and is supported by Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), providing independently verified information on the environmental impacts of relevant products across their lifecycle.
These characteristics are intended to give architects and building designers greater scope to combine aesthetic requirements with long-term coating performance and more responsible material choices.
Recognition for architectural coating development
Jeff Jirak, Business Unit Director, AkzoNobel Powder Coatings, said: “Winning this recognition from The Architect’s Newspaper is a proud moment for everyone involved in the Futura Collection.
“It validates the way Futura brings together design leadership, practical performance and sustainability. For architects and designers, the collection offers the confidence to specify expressive, durable finishes that are designed to perform for the long term.”
The Best of Products Award adds further recognition for the Interpon D Futura range and its approach to combining architectural design flexibility with superdurable powder coating performance and sustainability considerations.
The collection is intended for projects where long-term finish performance, colour selection and material sustainability all need to be considered as part of the building design.
