Introducing Filtermist – the (not so) new kid on the block

Listen to this article

Many SHAPA members will not have heard of Filtermist. For those that have, they may know it as the UK’s largest manufacturer of oil mist extraction equipment, but they may not realise the full scope of its capability in other areas of industrial air cleaning.

An organisational restructure at the end of last year means Filtermist is now a single-source solution for customers looking for a partner to help them ensure the air in their facility is clean and safe to breathe. The re-organisation followed a period of successive acquisitions which included SHAPA members Dustcheck Limited – manufacturer of Dust Control and Extraction equipment – and DCS Group Limited which included Gallito Ltd, a UK manufacturer which produced advanced paint finishing solutions and FastClip extraction ductwork and accessories.

Made in the UK

Filtermist, which was established in 1969, consolidated all the acquired businesses into just two – Filtermist International Limited and Filtermist Systems Limited, operating and manufacturing from sites in Telford, Northampton, Wetherby, Dewsbury and Glasgow.

Filtermist International is now responsible for manufacturing a range of product brands including Dustcheck, Ecogate, Fastclip, Gallito, Kerstar and XS Automation, as well as manufacturing its own world class oil mist filters which are exported to more than 60 countries.

Manufacturing processes can create a wide variety of contaminants including oil mist, dust, fume, smoke, VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and odours which must all be controlled under Health and Safety regulations including Control of Substances Hazardous to Health 2002 (CoSHH), as well as Environmental laws such as the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2013.

Filtermist Systems’ expertise includes delivering fully automated centralised air cleaning systems for clients across a wide range of bulk handling industries including food processing, pharmaceutical, printing, packaging and converting, chemical, agriculture, minerals and many more.
