KSB acquires pump manufacturer Smedegaard
On the 16th February 2012, KSB acquired an eighty percent share in Copenhagen-based T.Smedegaard A/S. The company, established in 1942 and with a workforce of around 80, manufactures circulating pumps used in heating systems, booster sets and pressurisation units. It has two production sites, one in Denmark and one in Switzerland, as well as assembly and business locations in the United Kingdom and Sweden.
“The acquisition aims at securing our building services project business in the areas of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning,” Dr Wolfgang Schmitt, Chairman of the Board of Management explained at the time of the acquisition. KSB has integrated the Smedegaard circulating pumps into its existing product portfolio. The pumps manufactured in Copenhagen and Beinwil am See (Switzerland) will round off KSB’s building services pump offering.
Eighteen Months on and the acquisition has given KSB access to a wider scope of technology in the building services sector. This being thanks to the circulating pumps which are also able to meet the increasing energy efficiency requirements of the ErP Directive. Distributed through KSB”s and Smedegaard’s sales organisations, these products are now reaching a broader customer base.
In the UK, KSB Ltd and Smedegaard Ltd are jointly developing an approach which seeks to offer customers the opportunity to purchase KSB and Smedegaard branded products through each companies sales channels. KSB Ltd Managing Director, Andy Ratcliffe, feels this is very important for the Groups continued growth. ‘‘We have been working closely with Chris Barrett, Managing Director of Smedegaard Ltd and his excellent team on the reciprocal transfer of product and application knowledge.
