NEW GUIDE OUTLINES BENEFITS OF VARIABLE SPEED DRIVES IN POWER STATION DECOMMISSIONING
Process Control
A new guide to using variable speed drives (VSDs) in decommissioning power stations is available from ABB.
VSDs can reduce operational expenditure (OPEX) throughout the decommissioning process by contributing to efficient control of pumps, fans and motors in general.
The drives have numerous applications in the decommissioning process, making them useful in areas such as decontamination, removal or cleaning of surfaces and structures, fixing or isolating of contaminants, demolition or dismantling and waste management and disposal.
The guide discusses how VSDs can be used in areas such as removal of effluents and contaminant extraction and controlling cranes used in demolition and dismantling, as well as showing detail of uses such as level control for pumping waste water and prevention of tank wall sedimentation.
The “Instant guide to the use of variable speed drives when decommissioning power stations” also covers such topics as pump selection, pressure control and motor efficiency.
