New Siemens ‘click and go’ modular control gear makes life easy

Listen to this article

Greater integration, easier installation, reduced costs and more detailed diagnostic information are just four advantages of Sirius Innovation – the new range of modular control gear from Siemens Industry Automation & Drive Technologies.

Smaller and easier to install, yet packed with more features, the new Sirius Innovation control gear range offers users a modular system that is set to make life easier.  All the modular devices within the system are available with either screw on or spring-loaded terminals. Using the spring-loaded terminals allows the user to take advantage of ‘click and go’ technology, meaning each individual component of a motor starter can be simply clicked into place without the need for tools. Not only does this drastically reduce assembly and wiring time, but it also allows users to tailor the load-feeder specifically to the requirements of the application.

Covering currents up to 40A in just two frame sizes (S00 for applications up to 7.5 kW and S0 for up to 18.5 kW at 400V), all components of the load feeder measure just 45mm wide, making Sirius Innovations the ideal product for applications where space is at a premium. Integrated auxiliary contacts come as standard and common accessories across the range keep product inventories to a minimum.

Direct on-line, reversing or star/delta starters can be easily assembled by simply clicking in place new intelligent function modules, cutting control wiring time to a minimum and totally eliminating costly wiring errors.

With the introduction of IO–link and improvements to existing AS-I technology, Sirius Innovation devices can be easily integrated into the control system. Both system giving much improved fault diagnosis and clear cost saving advantages over conventional point-to-point wiring both inside on out of the control panel.

Siemens say that this is “the launch of the decade” for this type of product and on the face of it it could well be with its optimised life cycle costs, reduced business complexity, increased functionality and environmental awareness. All of this combined with with a host of other benefits including considerable space saving, expansion of the system platform, reduced varience & power and of course that important ingredient, time saving.

Based on efficiency & time saving, Sirius Innovation is certainly cost effective in comparison to tradional systems and although initially targeted at the Food & Beverage, Water & Wastewater and Materials Handling industries there is little doubt that it has application across all of the process market.

Mark Harrison, product manager for Sirius Innovation comments:

“We believe that Sirius Innovation is a step change forward in terms of modular control gear. After extensive research and development, the clear advantages in terms of operational efficiency gains, reduced costs, integration, plant monitoring and proactive maintenance benefits are clear to see. We believe the market will enjoy these clear installation and operational benefits”.
