Newson Gale showcases new Road Tanker Static Earthing System
Static earthing system for road tankers
Newson Gale’s new static earthing system for road tankers, the Earth Rite® RTR, was on display at this year”s StocExpo 2010 exhibition. Much of the interest centred on the system’s parameter checks that ensure a driver must earth the road tanker prior to loading or unloading flammable products.
In order to counteract the risk of drivers forgetting to earth the tanker, or connecting to parts of the tanker not electrically connected to the container, the Earth-Rite® RTR can differentiate when connected to a road tanker or connected to other conductive metal objects that are present at the loading gantry.
Additionally, the Earth-Rite® RTR analyses the condition of the system’s connection to earth, particularly if local earths at the loading gantry are being utilised to dissipate electrostatic currents.
When both the road tanker recognition check and earth status verification check are positive, the system monitors the quality of these connections for the duration of the transfer process engaging a pair of volt-free output contacts that can interlock with pumps, PLCs or other attention grabbing devices.Â
The Earth-Rite® RTR is supplied in a IIC enclosure and carries IECEx, ATEX (Zone 1 / 21) and SIL 2 certification.
