On-site training is designed to minimise vibration induced fatigue problems in pipework
Cheshire based VibTech Ltd has launched a range of professional on-site training courses aimed at preventing potentially serious pipework leaks on hazardous chemical sites, in particular those which come under the COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) regulations.
The courses are the result of collaboration with the Energy Institute, which publishes many best practice guidelines for industry, including the highly rated: ‘Guidelines for the avoidance of vibration induced fatigue in process pipework’.
Vibration induced fatigue cracking is one of the largest single causes of leakage from pipework, posing a serious risk of fire, explosion or pollution.
The aim of the training is to raise awareness of vibration induced fatigue problems and to improve the competence of site staff in this important area of plant safety. This will enable them to identify potential problem areas and have the practical knowledge to know what they can do to minimise the risks of pipework failure.
By learning best practice, the training will help companies underpin their obligations under the COMAH regulations, take all measures necessary to prevent major accidents and help reduce the risks of leakage to levels as low as reasonably practicable.
Neil Parkinson, Director of VibTech Ltd believes that the most effective approach is for basic pipework vibration assessments to be performed by existing site staff who have the necessary knowledge and familiarity with the plant. The VibTech training will allow them to perform a wide range of all basic assessments and implement simple remedial repairs. Any remaining more complex cases can then be referred to a specialist company, such as AV Technology Ltd, who can offer a range of pipework vibration services and solutions.
Experience shows that many companies do not have the necessary in-house expertise to be able to assess and rectify many basic pipework vibration problems and furthermore, many companies spend significant amounts of money implementing either ineffective or even more damaging solutions.
All training courses are performed on customer’s own sites and include hands-on practical sessions such as visual inspection and basic vibration measurements looking at real examples.
