Polish Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant orders 200 actuators
AUMA, the specialist in modular electric actuation, has been contracted to supply over 200 actuators to aid automation at a new Polish Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant. Located in the industrial city of Stalowa Wola, the scheme is part of an initiative by the Polish Government designed to reduce the country’s dependency on coal for electricity generation.
With an estimated opening date of late 2015, the plant will produce 450 megawatts of electric power. An additional 240 megawatts of thermal output will be generated to provide district heating for the city’s 65,000 homes. With a thermal efficiency rating of 60%, the plant will be one of the most efficient power plants in Europe.
Local representation from AUMA Polska was key to securing the contract. The Polish subsidiary for the global AUMA organisation has a 30 strong workforce and over 15 years’ experience providing actuation installations in the region. Comprehensive and responsive on-site support will be provided by AUMA Polska during the commissioning and start-up period.
The order is the latest in a series of contracts awarded to AUMA for installations in Poland. Stalowa Wola is particularly prestigious as European Investment Bank officials, who have contributed to the funding of the project, have advised that the plant will demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of CCGT technology in reducing the country’s carbon footprint.
The actuator manufacturer reports to the contractor Abengoa. The final customer is the state-owned energy and gas distribution company, Elektrocieplownia Stalowa Wola.
