Rubber Membranes for Valves

Listen to this article

Rubber membranes for pinch valves are the only wearable part that needs to be replaced and are quite versatile. For breakdowns and emergency replacements, operators usually keep rubber membranes for valves in stock as spares to ensure that the operations are continued as quickly as possible.

Since most rubber membranes in valves are made of natural rubber, they are capable of withstanding abrasive materials and oils. When compressed air is blown and extracted in the rubber membrane, it causes the pinch valve to open and close periodically.

Each rubber membrane closes in the similar elliptical shape each time, which results in a longer service life. Moreover, the top quality rubber used in its manufacturing also ensures high durability and longevity.

They are more commonly known as a rubber bladder, rubber sleeve, rubber hose or rubber tube that are made using highly durable elastomer. This ensures the ability for the rubber membrane in a valve to retain its original state and open following compression by pressure.

sleevesTypes of Rubber Membranes and their applications

Natural Rubber membranes can be used at up to 80C. They are used in applications such as foundry and silica sand, slurry, dust, plastic pellets, waste water, synthetic materials, crop spraying and many others.

They are also available in food quality grade which can also handle media of up to 80C. They are used in applications where abrasive foods are processed such as sugar, salts, and others. There is a higher temperature grade of natural rubber which is suitable for applications up to 90C.

EPDM Rubber membrane is the best choice for applications with temperatures up to 120C. EPDM rubber membranes in valves are also able to handle abrasive media and offer good chemical resistance in SIP and CIP cleaning processes. EPDM is also available in food quality grade and used for applications where thorough cleaning processes are in place.

Nitrile is mainly used where the media contains grease, fat, and oil contents such as sewage sludge applications. The food quality grade rubber membrane in valves is used for food applications where media contains greasy or oily content such as fish, chocolate, milk, butter, and different types of domestic oils.
