Safety Rules!

Listen to this article

Specialist safety systems integrator Hima-Sella is offering readers the opportunity to receive one of their highly regarded SIL related rulers.

Entitled the “Hima-Sella Rule of Thumb for Safety” it offers a simple, visual method for remembering Failure rates and Safety Integrity Levels (SIL).  The ruler incorporates a simple table which address “demand” and continuous” modes together with the Average Probability of Failure on Demand (PFOD) per year and the Dangerous Failure Frequency (FTD) per hour.

Hima-Sella”s Functional Safety Specialist, Ian Parry, who designed the first ruler back in 2000 commented, “Over the years this has proved to be an invaluable tool for anybody involved in SIL calculations and we”ve had requests for them from as far afield as the Middle East and China.  It provides an easy method of remembering SIL levels and the appropriate failure data.”

Hima-Sella is giving away a limited number of the rulers as part if its 35 year anniversary celebrations in 2009.  Please send an email to sales@hima-sella.co.uk if you would like to receive one.
