SIEVMASTER OVERCOMES CONTAMINATION AND DUST HAZARD IN CERAMIC INDUSTRY
High quality ceramic components demand high quality base powder. To help solve their component reject problem the company contacted Farleygreene. The problems of excessive handling and the need to transfer the loose powder product between different bins not only created excessive dust but also cross contamination and consequently scrap components.Â
The need was to incorporate a sieving system and material transfer system together, thus reducing double handling and maintain the powder within the enclosed system.
Farleygreene supplied a sieving/vacuum transfer combination system, with a dedicated bin loading station and special bin covers.
Taking the powder product via a rotary valve directly from the spray drier the low level Sievmaster SM1200 dia machine separates any unwanted particles through a 200 micron mesh, any oversize material being discharged automatically to waste, the fines passing into a floor located transceiver hopper. Once material fills the transceiver hopper it is vacuum conveyed to the remote bin filling station through an enclosed pipe to the pneumatic dump hopper. The connection between the dump hopper and collection bin being maintained via transition tubes and specially manufactured lids. A rare earth magnet is also positioned within the system to remove any unwanted metal dust.
The most significant improvement of this enclosed system is the savings made with the reduction of scrap components, the powder is sieved to a known size, no longer can contaminate material enter the production cycle, therefore a perfect material quality is maintained. Similarly the elimination of dust has ensured that the working environment now remains within H & S guidelines.
In addition the area can now be cleaned on a regular basis, as each item of equipment is mobile and easily dismantled when required.
