Silverson Ultramix – the perfect answer for powder incorporation
Silverson's Ultramix is a very versatile industrial mixer which is designed specifically to handle applications that push beyond what can be done with conventional agitators and stirrers, without requiring the extreme high shear of a rotor/stator mixer.
Within the Ultramix is a single-component dynamic mixing head, which delivers excellent performance while reducing cleaning and maintenance needs. Its narrow profile puts it at a specific advantage for use in limited-access vessels such as IBCs (tote bins).
At high-speed operating conditions, product propulsion grooves on the outside of the head force the product around it outward, creating a low-pressure zone. This draws product from inside the mixing head through radial slots outward.
When material is transported through these slots, it is sheared prior to being forcibly expelled back into the body of the mix. Simultaneously, fresh product is drawn in through the holes at the top and bottom of the mixing head to produce an active and consistent flow within the vessel.
This maintains all of the ingredients completely engaged in the blending process, with circulation even in harsh containers such as IBCs. The intense mixing action is highly effective at de-structuring fine cohesive powders such as gums and thickeners, breaking down clumps and agglomerates so that even distribution can take place.
It also excels at dispersing troublesome powders that float or “raft” – even low-density materials that other mixers are unable to handle due to buoyancy. Agitators and impellers cannot offer the same consistency, especially in high-viscosity mixtures, and may leave behind unmixed product pockets.
Silverson offers a complete range of Ultramix models, including a laboratory scale unit to enable users to replicate production performance under controlled conditions.
