Siemens Automation and Drives has launched the Sitrans LR460 radar level transmitter, enabling virtually any solid medium to be measured without any direct contact.
The Sitrans LR460 is a 4-wire 24 GHz FMCW (Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) radar level transmitter, built on the award winning Sitrans LR400 platform. The LR460 can be used for the reliable measurement of a variety of substances including gypsum, fly ash, flour, grain and aggregate.

The new Sitrans radar is ideal for solids applications where extreme dust and high temperatures are common. The instrument has been developed for long ranges up to 100m.
One of the key benefits of the LR460 is that after the initial setup, process intelligence takes over and responds automatically to the changing materials, slope conditions and physical silo features such as fixed obstructions or build-up. This enables a repeatable, fast and reliable continuous measurement of material during static, discharge or filling conditions.
The LR460 also features a built in Easy Aimer, enabling the transmitter to be positioned perfectly in relation to the sloped surface of the materials and as a result improve the return signal quality. In addition, the infrared handheld programmer enables the non-intrusive programming of the device without opening the cover. One of the key benefits for users is a self-guided quick start wizard for plug and play start-up. Optional self-cleaning purging connection and dust covers are also available to prevent any sticky solids from building up inside the antenna.
