Stainless Steel Power Frame for MasoSine SPS pumps

Listen to this article

For use where hygiene is of paramount importance, such as in the food, beverage and cosmetic sectors, Watson-Marlow Pumps Group is introducing a Stainless Steel Power Frame for its MasoSine SPS pumps. This latest development from the world leaders in positive displacement pump technology, upgrades the range to 3A certification for CIP. The fact that the pump is CIP-able is certified from an independent German milk institute*. The Stainless Steel Power Frame is easy to retrofit as an exchangeable spare part and offers customers significant additional value without additional cost. The paint-free and corrosion resistant Stainless Steel Power Frame is designed to suit the best-selling 2”, 2.5” and 4” MasoSine SPS pumps which offer flow rates of 250 litres per  hour right up to 41,760 litres per hour.

Responding to customer feedback
Ask any plant engineer about their biggest concern where hygienic applications are concerned and the answer will invariably surround the amount of corrosion that manifests on conventional painted cast iron pump frames.  Listening to customers is a key element of any Watson-Marlow MasoSine development programme and in this instance it has led directly to the launch of the Stainless Steel Power Frame.
No extra cost
Through intensive investment in the development process and new manufacturing techniques (the 1.4301 stainless steel frame is made using investment casting), it is offered to customers at the same price as the cast iron frame being replaced. Furthermore, because of the eager anticipation for a rust-free solution, the whole Stainless Steel Power Frame will also be available as an exchangeable spare part. The power frame can be changed from the pump side as well as from the base frame connection points. This presents a faster and easier option for customers changing the shaft cartridge. Naturally, the shaft cartridge can be ordered as a complete assembled unit, which includes the bearing housing with bearings and shaft (the position of the latter can be easily adjusted using a shim ring).
Despite weighing only 25kg (with MasoSine SPS 2.5), the Stainless Steel Power Frame is extremely sturdy and is not prone to tipping on to its pumphead like some competitor models. In fact, every aspect of this innovative product is geared towards user benefits. For example, there is zero opportunity for oil of the bearing housing to contaminate the product thanks to a purposely-designed gap between the wet end and power end. And if a seal did leak during the pump’s lifetime users can easily see that there is a leak because the shaft is visible.
Ease of Cleaning
Ease of cleaning was another priority design issue when developing the Stainless Steel Power Frame. For example, a flush system can be connected quickly and simply – only the distance ring has to be changed. The base frame can also be rotated through 180° to provide more space under the pumphead, again facilitating straightforward cleaning procedures. All surfaces are designed to let the fluid drain.
Available from June 2012, the Stainless Steel Power Frame accommodates MasoSine SPS 2.5″.  A power frame for the SPS 2″ and SPS 4″ models will follow a few weeks later.

Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions

About us

Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group (WMFTG) peristaltic tube and hose pumps meet requirements including: value for money; low cost of ownership; reliability and ease of maintenance to the food and beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, mining and many other industries.

We demonstrate how pumps deliver significant process efficiencies over the lifetime of the equipment. Whether performing flavouring addition in food processing, chemical metering in water treatment or mineral recovery, we have a solution which can cut pump downtime and reduce costs through higher accuracy metering and transfer. WMFTG has dedicated application engineers available to help customers make the right pump and tubing choice from a range providing microlitres per minute to 80 cubic metres per hour flow rates.

The only part of the pump to come into contact with the product is the tube or hose. This means there are no seals or valves that can wear or fail. Replacing the tube or hose can be performed quickly and safely. Peristaltic pump benefits include:

Total fluid containment with no seals No ancillaries Handle viscous and abrasive slurries and sludge Self-priming capability Dry running without damage to the pump In addition to their range of positive displacement pumps, Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group has added PTFE-lined chemical and industrial hoses to their range. Aflex hoses are reinforced to withstand the most severe conditions and use.
