Systems integration specialist expands Functional Safety Management team
Systems integration specialist Hima-Sella has increased the size of its Functional Safety (FS) Management Team to seven following the addition of Nick Brown and Ian Dolan, who have been with the company since 1997 and 1998 respectively and earlier this month completed an intensive TÜV-certified FS training course; qualifying as Functional Safety Professionals (FSPs).
Hima-Sella’s FS Management Team acts independently of all other teams and departments within the company. It ensures Hima-Sella’s safety systems and engineered solutions meet the requirements of IEC 61508 / 61511 and that only competent personnel are assigned to any given project. Moreover, only certified engineers (to TÜV FSEng or FSP) can work in Hima-Sella’s FS Management Team.
Nick and Ian’s recent training covered a wealth of topics including FS and lifecycle management, the intricacies of the international safety standards IEC 61508 and 61511, hazard and risk assessment techniques (including FTA, FMEA, HAZOP, LOPA, ETA), SIL assessment and verification, and safety requirements and specifications.
Nigel Banner, Hima-Sella’s Engineering Director (Process Safety), comments: “Our Functional Safety Management Team now accounts for one quarter of our Process Safety department and about one tenth of our entire engineering headcount, which reflects the professional and uncompromising ‘culture of safety’ being nurtured within Hima-Sella and which underpins every customer engagement.”
Celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year, Hima-Sella is recognised as a market leader in the provision of ‘engineered solutions’ for safety, control and automation applications. Its products and services improve operational efficiency and safety in highly complex and often hazardous environments within a variety of industry sectors including Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Nuclear, Rail, Steel and the Power generation industries.
