ABB Systems & Solutions Take the Stand at Subsea Expo 2016

ABB is exhibiting at Subsea Expo, from 3rd to 5th February 2016, showing how it can help offshore operators deploy safe, productive, cost effective operations and projects.

Stand 135 at the Aberdeen Exhibition  and Conference Centre will be the venue for a range of demos that will showcase ABB’s innovative solutions for the electrification of marine and deck machinery, motion control and power quality equipment.

Experts from ABB’s drives, motors, power quality, instrumentation, motion compensation and subsea power businesses will be on stand offering advice on products, systems and life cycle services including upgrades and remote and conditioning monitoring.

ABB is demonstrating a range of integrated solutions to address these important issues.

X-Wave is the world’s first self-learning motion compensation system, developed to provide intelligent, cost effective motion (heave) compensation to offshore lifting appliances.

Designed to enable offshore lifting operations to be carried in weather conditions that would otherwise put the vessel on weather downtime, X-Wave automatically modifies and optimises control system behaviour in response to changing vessel dynamics.

This means no vessel specific setup is required and the equipment can be transferred between vessels offering significant advantages to deployment of portable equipment.

HES880 Hybrid Electrical Drive, based on the marine certified ACS880 drive platform, provides kinetic energy recovery and local energy storage/release via supercapacitors or batteries.

This offers a high performance active heave compensated drive train that consumes a fraction of the overall power of conventional systems and requires much lower power from the vessel.

Together with a total current distortion of less than five percent, which exceeds today’s stringent marine standards, the drive is suitable for location in harsh deck environments. It can be skid or deck mounted, thereby significantly reducing weight and space required on deck.

Protected to IP67 and rated to ambient temperatures from -40 to 85oC, it can resist the typical vibration loads encountered in shipboard and marine use.

DriveMonitor is an online intelligent monitoring and diagnostics tool which allows secure access to ABB’s drives over the vessel VSAT from any location worldwide. DriveMonitor provides real-time access to the drive and supports monitoring, configuration and diagnostics that automatically collect and analyses selected drive signals and parameters.

DeepSeaMaster flowmeter provides a solution to the problems posed by the formation of gas hydrates in subsea pipelines and transfer lines. Formed in high pressure and low temperature conditions, gas hydrates can block lines and wellheads, posing a risk to safety and incurring lost revenue through lost production.

Rated to API10000, the DeepSeaMaster can be used to accurately control the injection of MonoEthylene Glycol (MEG) which is used to prevent the formation of hydrates by raising the temperature within the lines.

Available for either 2 1/16” and 5 1/8” diameter pipelines, the DeepSeaMaster can also be used to measure dry and wet hydrocarbon gas compositions and viscous light oil and heavy liquid flows.

Different flow primaries are available depending on the flows being measured. A Venturi element is used for normal duties, whilst for applications with low or viscous flows, a meter run with a conical entrance orifice plate is available.

Manufactured at ABB’s ISO 29001 accredited manufacturing facility in Workington, the DeepSeaMaster can be custom-built and tested in accordance with specific project requirements.

Units are available in a choice of materials, including Duplex, Super Duplex and overlaid constructions (e.g. AISI 4130 to API6A PSL3, Alloy 625 lined). ABB supplies the material traceability certificates needed to ensure the quality and suitability of the material used in the manufacture of all subsea flow elements.
