There are many aspects of the Beijing Olympics that will stay long in the memory, including some exceptional performances from athletes who participated at both the main and the Paralympic Games as well as the new and already iconic sports venues such as the Bird’s Nest and the Water Cube.

The amount of effort that went on behind the scenes at the pre-planning and planning stages to successfully stage such an enormous event needed input from many thousands of people with as wide a range of skill sets as the athletes themselves.

At the heart of seventeen of the main venues lie a vast army of Grundfos pumps whose role is to perform an incredible array of roles from heating to ventilation and air conditioning; water supply to wastewater removal and treatment; irrigation to water recycling; system pressurisation to pressure boosting; seawater heat exchange to under floor heating; packaged fire sets to drinking fountains and ornamental fountains.

In addition 1,550 the city’s buses continue to benefit from being fitted with Grundfos NoNOx systems that significantly reduce harmful emissions.

Each solution was chosen on its own merit but needed to meet the rigorous demands that would be placed on them and as well as being capable of matching the very strict environmental objectives.

The race maybe over but in legacy, these venues are ready to provide an amazing setting for a huge range of local, national and international events that will continue to keep these venues in the public eye for many years to come and Grundfos pumps will continue to quietly and efficiently play their part.
