Video Case Study Demonstrates Value Of ‘precise And Accurate’ Chemical Metering For UK Paper Manufacturer

Listen to this article

The value of “precise, consistent and accurate pumping” for a UK paper manufacturer is explored in a new documentary-style video by Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group. The new video – the latest in a series of filmed case studies – was launched on YouTube and other social channels this week.

The new video features St Cuthbert’s Mill, a master papermaker with a heritage that can be traced back to the 1700s. Based near Wells in Somerset, the company specialises in the manufacture of high-quality artists’ papers.

The video explores the strengths of WMFTG’s Qdos pump technology for metering substances such as pigment and starch.  An interview with Paul Tremlett, the company’s Shift Manager explains the contribution Qdos makes to reliable production and minimum downtime.

For us to have consistency and a quality product going out the door, we need to have trust in what we use. We need quality, and they (WMFTG) provide it,” he says.

He goes on to explain that with approximately 80 tons of paper produced every month, using a continental shift pattern across 24/7 operations, reliability of technology is vital to operations.

Under two minutes in length, the video will be of particular interest to production engineers working in the field of paper and board manufacturing – as well as those in other industries where accurate and repeatable chemical dosing is vital.

It’s very clear from the video how important it is for a high-quality product business such as St Cuthbert’s Mill to have the most reliable technology partners. We share their commitment for excellence and quality, and this shines out in the video case study. There’s no doubt that this kind of content is a powerful way to capture and share examples of best practice with the wider world“, said Rachel Pallett – Regional Director EMEA at WMFTG.”

About us

Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group (WMFTG) peristaltic tube and hose pumps meet requirements including: value for money; low cost of ownership; reliability and ease of maintenance to the food and beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, mining and many other industries.

We demonstrate how pumps deliver significant process efficiencies over the lifetime of the equipment. Whether performing flavouring addition in food processing, chemical metering in water treatment or mineral recovery, we have a solution which can cut pump downtime and reduce costs through higher accuracy metering and transfer. WMFTG has dedicated application engineers available to help customers make the right pump and tubing choice from a range providing microlitres per minute to 80 cubic metres per hour flow rates.

The only part of the pump to come into contact with the product is the tube or hose. This means there are no seals or valves that can wear or fail. Replacing the tube or hose can be performed quickly and safely. Peristaltic pump benefits include:

Total fluid containment with no seals No ancillaries Handle viscous and abrasive slurries and sludge Self-priming capability Dry running without damage to the pump In addition to their range of positive displacement pumps, Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Group has added PTFE-lined chemical and industrial hoses to their range. Aflex hoses are reinforced to withstand the most severe conditions and use.
