World’s first device that detects viruses and malware on S7 PLCs announced

NACOM Automation Ltd and MB Connect Line present the mbEAGLE the world’s first device that provides detection of viruses and malware like Stuxnet on S7 PLCs.
This unique solution was demonstrated at the SPS IPC DRIVES 2013 in Nuremberg for the first time. Using a reference backup this compact device continuously monitors the static memory area of S7-300 and S7-400 controllers. Manipulation via malware and viruses are quickly detected as well as any “suspicious” changes to the control program that are made. If a change occurs the operator receives a message – depending on the system configuration – by e-mail or SMS.

Additionally, the mbEAGLE offers a function for the continuous backup of the current data. This ensures that, for example, ongoing optimizations on formulations and regulators are stored if the PLC hardware needs to be replaced. The recovery of the control program is directly executed via the mbEAGLE. No manufacturer software is required. A connection to the PLC is possible by MPI-/Profibus or Ethernet. Simple configuration settings and modifications are performed via a browser. For security purposes there is no access possible via the corporate network or the Internet. The mbEAGLE is protected as a utility patent.
Nick Cadby, Managing Director at NACOM Automation Ltd. comments: “NACOM is delighted to have been chosen as UK and Ireland agent for MB Connect Line products. As remote maintenance solutions, the mbNET industrial Ethernet routers complement NACOM Automations portfolio of communication and automation products very well and we expect the market to show a great deal of interest in these products over the coming months.”
