High torque, multi-option air motor from Parker delivers power and flexibility in demanding applications
Parker Hannifin has launched a new P1V-M air motor, which has been developed to offer extremely high levels of torque, power and speed in a wide range of physically and environmentally demanding applications. The P1V-M air motor is supplied with an integrated planetary gearbox and can easily be configured to offer up to 27 different output options, while maintenance is quick and simple with the motor being left in-situ. Combined, these features make the PV1-M an ideal choice for OEMs and end users alike, with the additional benefit that the unique air motor design offers an innovative, reliable and efficient alternative to electric or hydraulic devices.
Parker is the global leader in motion and control technologies, and the new PV1-M is the latest unit to be added to the company’s extensive range of pneumatic products and systems.
Modular in design, the new air motor combines both a vane motor unit and planetary gearbox in a single robust steel housing, which is supplied complete with an integrated standard fitting flange. There are three motor sizes, rated at 200, 400 and 600W, with a choice of one, two or three stage gearboxes, all of which are available in multiple combinations. This gives a total of 27 different options, each of which can be configured quickly and simply by OEMs or distributors, helping to minimise stock holdings while improving flexibility and speed of service at the point of use or supply.
The PV1-M is capable of providing output shaft free speeds from a minimum of 30rpm to a maximum of 10,000 pm, with torque up to about 400Nm at maximum power. High levels of torque can be achieved at low speeds, and for applications where the motor is configured to be braked to a standstill the maximum torque can rise to 800Nm. To accommodate these loads the gearbox is permanently lubricated and features tough cast iron and aluminium internal components. The output shaft is manufactured from hardened steel and incorporates high performance double bearings to withstand both axial and radial forces.
To make maintenance quick and simple the vane unit can be accessed from the rear, so the motor can be serviced while in-situ. If required, vane replacement can be carried out in under ten minutes to minimise downtime still further.
In common with all Parker air motors, the PV1-M can be used as a replacement for traditional electric motors and, power for power, offers a more compact, lighter weight solution. In addition, the PV1-M can be loaded until it stalls and be stopped and started continuously without damage, with the direction of rotation being reversible, simply by changing the direction of air flow. The PV1-M is also suitable or use in particularly harsh environments, at extremes of vibration and under operating temperatures between -30 and +100ºC; similarly, as there are no electrical connections, the new air motor can be used in hazardous environments.
For optimum performance, the PV1-M air motors should be used with filtered dry compressed air, which can be lubricated by oil mist or be left unlubricated, with supply pressures being regulated to a maximum of 7 bar.
