Landia Takes Long-Term Pump Approach for Food Waste Biogas Project with HAYLEY DEXIS
Landia has strengthened its long-standing partnership with HAYLEY DEXIS by supplying a bespoke long-coupled pump solution for a food waste anaerobic digestion (AD) and biogas facility, helping to support reliable renewable energy production and efficient plant operation.
The project demonstrates how specialist engineering collaboration can overcome application-specific challenges within the growing UK anaerobic digestion and biogas sector. By combining Landia's expertise in pump technology with HAYLEY DEXIS's understanding of customer requirements, the two companies were able to develop a tailored solution designed specifically for the operational needs of the end user.
To support a customer operating within the food waste-to-renewable energy sector, Landia supplied new long-coupled pumps that have been developed from its established range of close-coupled MPTK-I Chopper Pumps.
The requirement arose from a specific operational need identified by HAYLEY DEXIS, whose engineering team supports the end user across its processing infrastructure. While Landia is widely recognised for its compact close-coupled pumping systems, the application called for a different approach that would deliver optimum performance and maintenance advantages.
According to Rob Bentley, Sales Engineer at HAYLEY DEXIS, the choice of long-coupled pumps was driven by practical operational considerations.
“In simple terms,” he said, “it’s all about keeping the wet-wet and the dry-dry. We worked closely alongside Landia to put together a tailored solution to suit the best interests of our customer.”
The successful collaboration highlights the importance of selecting the correct pump configuration for demanding anaerobic digestion and biogas applications, where reliability, ease of maintenance and operational efficiency are critical to maintaining continuous production and maximising renewable energy output.
As founder members of the Anaerobic Digestion & Bioresources Association (ADBA), Landia has built a strong reputation within the AD and biogas industry. The company continues to supply its small-footprint close-coupled pumps alongside its widely used GasMix digester mixing system to facilities around the world.
Landia's equipment is installed across a broad range of anaerobic digestion applications, including food waste treatment plants, agricultural and farm waste operations and an increasing number of municipal sludge treatment facilities. As demand for sustainable waste management and renewable energy generation continues to grow across the UK and internationally, reliable pumping and mixing technologies remain essential components of successful AD infrastructure.
Commenting on the project, Howard Burton, Technical Sales Engineer at Landia, highlighted the company's willingness to adapt its proven technology to meet specific customer requirements.
“We pride ourselves on our near 100 years of primarily designing and building long-lasting close-coupled pumps, but on this occasion, when HAYLEY DEXIS identified Landia’s long-coupled design as the best possible solution for their customer, we were keen to collaborate.”
“This latest project with HAYLEY DEXIS follows numerous successful AD/Biogas and food industry installations that we have worked on together, including several retrofits.”
The latest installation further strengthens the relationship between Landia and HAYLEY DEXIS, which have worked together on numerous projects across the anaerobic digestion, biogas and food processing sectors. Their combined expertise has supported a range of new installations and retrofit projects, helping operators improve performance, reliability and long-term asset life.
As the UK continues to invest in renewable energy, circular economy initiatives and sustainable waste management, partnerships between technology manufacturers and engineering specialists will play an increasingly important role in delivering efficient and dependable infrastructure. This latest project demonstrates how a collaborative engineering approach can provide end users with solutions that are tailored to their operational requirements while supporting long-term performance and reliability.

Landia's headquarters are located in Lem, which is how it has been since 1933. Today, Landia has subsidiaries in England, Germany, Norway and the US, and a sales office in China. In addition, Landia products are sold in 45 countries worldwide. Landia supplies pumping and mixing solutions to many different industries, with the most important ones being agriculture, wastewater, biogas plants and the fish industry. In general, you will find Landia's products wherever there is a difficult medium to be pumped or mixed. Landia survives by selling quality solutions in close partnership with the customers.
Landia is not a supermarket where customers select products from the shelves. Our technical sales people are always in close discussions with customers, which ensures solutions that work. For Landia, quality in every phase a matter of course, and we have been ISO9001 certified since 1994. Quality also means that many of Landia's products have been in operation for 20-25 years even though the operating conditions may be extreme. In that way, Landia's customers achieve the lowest lifespan costs, while resource consumption is minimised, which further results in a positive impact on the environment.
