Farmers Should Act Now to Secure Funding from the Rural Development Programme

Listen to this article

EDP24 details how farmers looking to secure funds from the Rural Development Programme to future-proof their irrigation needs should do so as soon as possible. The grants have been good sources of revenue to help farm businesses improve their water resource management and, having been available for all of 2014, it is highly likely that a great deal of organisations will be competing to receive a share of the revamped Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) next year.

The competition is said to be fiercer than ever due to the abstraction license reform, driven by the Water Act 2014, legislation that states that licenses may become more time-limited, reducing farmers’ long-term security of water supply. In addition, the Environmental Agency is to be given more power to control over abstraction in times of drought.

Farmers can take advantage of free rainwater by adopting rainwater harvesting systems; large volume rainwater tanks that collect rainwater run-off from farm roof areas. Rainwater is stored at optimum condition, thanks to Enduramaxx plastic water tanks being made from a single piece of rotationally-moulded UV-stabilised polyethylene.

Learn more about Enduramaxx rainwater tanks and plastic water tanks and how your farm can start to save and use free rainwater.
